Container Cargo Scenario

In order to protect cargo and avoid explosives, a container freight company installs Portendo Tracer sensors in all containers and deploys an operations central. The sensors utilize the ships’ communication links to communicate with the operations central. The system can detect and identify threats, but also track containers for the purpose of logistics and alert the operations central if the container is opened and therefore alarm for possible theft.

Imagine a group of terrorist who wants to utilize containers to detonate explosives in the New York harbor. They would localize a container already destined for New York, break it open, preferably off-shore, empty its content and replace it with explosives and reseal the container.

With the Portendo system in place, the Tracer sensor would first detect that the container has been opened and secondly detect the explosives now residing in the container. From the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the sensor would report its findings to the operations central. The report would include the time of the events, the position, and the type of explosives detected. The operation central personnel would immediately alert the coast guard who could apprehend the terrorists and stop the lethal cargo long before it reaches the U.S coast.

This example illustrates the early-warning capability of the Portendo TDS, to stop terrorist attacks long before they pose a threat.
